Jen in Deutschland

A year abroad…

Paris!

I went to Paris this weekend with five other CBYX’ers.  Super exciting.  We took the train Friday night, going by TGV so it was only two hours.  We sat across the aisle from a 2 1/2 year old who taught us some German and had quite a nice trip.  Upon arriving we met Jaimen’s old [...]

Bavaria!

I received an email yesterday from Will Maier with two attachments.  One was our Bundesland placements and the other was a writing assignment for DC.  The writing assignment, although less exciting, was quite interesting.  Some of them I have paragraphs I could write on and others not so much (Sadly that one being write about [...]

Saarbrücken!

I found out yesterday that I will be going to Saarbrücken for Language school which is really exciting.  This is the city I had hoped for since it’s not huge like Koln, right by France (so I can practice), and is for beginners so  I think it’s a little more intense than the other schools [...]

Mailing #3

So yesterday I received mailing #3 and the package from the embassy.  So exciting.
The embassy sent a whole bunch of books and magazines to introduce the German culture and current events.  I want to start reading “Facts about Germany” in English so I can check out the German copy soon.  It should be good practice/learning.
The [...]

3 Months.

So, it’s almost May 1st and I think it’s safe to say that I’m not getting a response from Germany about the University.  Alas.  I shall have to wait until July to see where I am living, and I’ll need to make a really awesome resume.  Gah.  It’s the resume part that I dislike.  Oh [...]

100 Days

So this past weekend I got a letter from CBYX.  That was exciting.  Mailing #2.
It was all on culture shock and the differences between German culture and American culture.  Interesting, but I haven’t read the largest packets yet.  I was supposed to be studying a lot, but I did a fair bit less than I [...]

Letter to Host Family and Other Fun Stuff

Today I received three fun emails relevant to Germany.  Two were from William Maier and one from Mr. Yeager.  Starting with the later, my dad gave me his email address, he is the president of one of the companies my dad works with.  I checked out the website of the German company they are associated [...]
